(COLDWATER) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency's Board of Health has found a new Medical Director.

The CHA says Dr. Karen Luparello has been selected to be the next Medical Director. She will be taking over for Dr. Lauren Vogel, who will be stepping down from that position effective September 30, 2021.

Dr. Luparello is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist, specializing in pediatrics. She practices out of Hillsdale, Michigan and is affiliated with Hillsdale Hospital. Luparello received her medical degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and has been in practice for over 20 years. Additionally, she holds a Masters Degree in Health Professions Education from Michigan State University.

She will begin her transition to Medical Director on July 1, 2021, working with Dr. Vogel until his retirement.

Vogel has served the CHA since 2013. He was instrumental in helping the agency navigate the COVID 19 pandemic. The CHA says Vogel's expertise in the early days when information was changing rapidly was invaluable. His presence in the community performing testing and vaccination at the clinics gave comfort to the community and agency staff.

Rebecca Burns, CHA Health Officer says the CHA is excited to welcome Dr. Luparello to the agency. Her dedication to the health and welfare of the communities we serve will benefit all residents. Burns says they thank Dr. Vogel for his passion and expertise as he helped navigate the agency through the past nine years. Burns says they hope Vogel will enjoy the next chapter of his life story.
