(BRISTOL) – Both drivers were injured when their vehicles collided just east of Bristol.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office says 20 year old Matthew Hertzler of Shipshewana was driving west on County Road 4 and approaching the intersection of County Road 35, just after 4:30 PM Monday. Deputies say Hertzler disregarded the stop sign and was struck by 22 year old Dylan Hopkins, who was driving north on County Road 35, which doesn't have a stop sign.

Hertzler was taken to Goshen Hospital complaining of a head injury. Hopkins was transported to Elkhart General Hospital with a broken leg.

Hertzler was given a citation for disregarding a stop sign causing injury and for using a telecommunications device while operating a vehicle.
