(ELKHART COUNTY) – Minor injuries are being reported following a crash between two semis on the Indiana Toll Road.

Indiana State Police say at 2:45 PM Thursday, they responded to a crash between semis in the westbound lanes of the Toll Road near mile marker 104, approximately 3 miles west of the Middlebury exit.

The preliminary investigation shows that 31 year old Carlos Jacome of Chicago was driving his semi in the right hand lane. Traffic was stop and go due to a construction zone being taken down. A second semi, driven by 68 year old George Kirkilewski of Peoria, Illinois, was also traveling in the right lane. He said he became momentarily distracted and drove into the back of Jacome's trailer as traffic slowed down quickly.

Kirkilewski was trapped in his semi, and was removed by the Bristol Fire and EMS. He was then taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Jacome was not injured in the collision. Both men were wearing their seat belts.

Troopers diverted the westbound traffic off the Toll Road at the Middlebury Exit until 4:50 PM. Both westbound lanes were reopened at approximately 5:30 PM.
