(STURGIS) – Work on Phase I of the West Congress Utility and Street Improvements project will start next week.

Sturgis Assistant City Manager Andrew Kuk (cook) says project work will occur on West Congress Street from South Centreville Road to Prairie Street. Construction crews are expected to begin placing barricades on Monday, with actual construction beginning on Tuesday and Wednesday.

This project will include reconstructing and resurfacing the street as well as replacing water main and water services. Storm water piping and catch basins will also be replaced.

Kuk says access to West Congress Street will be limited during construction, and vehicles will not be allowed to park on the street during this period. The City is asking all residents to take note of the following: if you are driving in the construction area, please proceed with caution; avoid the construction area by parking on side streets were it's allowed.

Also, local traffic will be allowed to access residences when possible and no through traffic on West Congress Street will be allowed.

The project is expected to be finished in mid-October. However, construction timelines are dependent upon weather conditions and contractor schedules.
