(COLDWATER) – Charges were filed against a Coldwater man for his alleged part in a domestic violence incident last week.

Branch County District Court officials say 32 year old Jeffrey Dwyer is facing charges of assault by strangulation or suffocation, and domestic violence.

Michigan State Police were called to investigate two alleged physical incidents that happened last Wednesday and Thursday at a residence in the 1000 block of Marshall Road. The victim, who is an acquaintance of Dwyer, says she was grabbed by the neck on both occasions and was even put into a headlock.

Troopers says during their investigation they saw scratch marks on Dwyer's arms. He claimed they were from his dog.

Dwyer entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment and bond was set at $10,000. A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for July 29 and a preliminary exam for August 5.
