(LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP) – Critical injuries were sustained by a driver in a two vehicle crash in Lockport Township.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says his department was sent to investigate the incident Tuesday, that happened around 9 AM. Deputies say a pickup driven by a 45 year old Sturgis resident was stopped on M-86 near Neaman Road for a westbound auto that was making a turn.

A Honda Accord, driven by a 70 year old Three Rivers resident was on M-86 and didn't see the stopped vehicles. The driver struck the rear of the pick up, veered off the road, striking an embankment and then overturning.

The Three Rivers resident received critical injuries in the incident and was taken from the scene for medical treatment.

The driver of the pickup was not injured. Both drivers were wearing their safety belts.

Assisting deputies at the scene were the Centreville and Three Rivers Fire Departments, the Three Rivers Police Department, and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
