(STURGIS) – There will be no change in the Sturgis millage rate.

During last week’s meeting, the Sturgis City Commission held a public hearing on the proposed millage rate for 2022. City Manager Mike Hughes presented the proposed millage rate. ...... {LISTEN}.

If that rate were to be adopted, it would generate an additional $320,000 in revenue for Sturgis, over the current tax rate of 10.4623 mills.

Hughes says in addition, the Streets and Sidewalks Improvement Millage has been rolled back due to the Headlee rule to a maximum rate of 2.947 mills.

City Clerk Ken Rhodes shared that if the maximum millage amount were to be adopted, the average increase in taxes per household would be approximately $54.

Several other Commissioners agreed with Mullins. After several minutes of discussion, the Commission voted unanimously to keep the millage rate at 10.4623 mills and the Streets and Sidewalks Improvement Millage rate at 2.947 mills.
