City Commission Gets Update On Downtown Construction Project

(STURGIS) – The Sturgis City Commission received an update on a downtown building project during their Wednesday meeting.

Josh Strautz of Rockford Construction shared with the Commissioners what they anticipate doing in terms of keeping the work area safe for citizens and business owners during the Root and Branch Project at 108-114 West Chicago Road. Strautz starts with the U.S. 12 and sidewalk side of the work area. ...... {LISTEN}.

Strautz then shares with the Commission what the plan is for the parking lot side of the building. ...... {LISTEN}.

Strautz says they are waiting for building permits and are hoping to start demolition on August 12. The project should take 18 months to complete and safety is their highest priority.

John Carmichael says the Root and Branch Project will consist of a five story building with a restaurant on the ground floor. Above it will be a mixture of one and two bedroom and studio apartments.
