(VOLINIA TOWNSHIP) – Five people were injured in a three vehicle crash over the weekend in Cass County’s Volinia Township.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke says his deputies were called to an accident at 6 PM Saturday at the intersection of Marcellus Highway and Decatur Road. It was determined that 35 year old Janelle Miller of Elkhart was traveling south on Decatur Road and stopped at the intersection. Miller then entered the intersection and struck a westbound vehicle driven by 57 year old Jeffery Brewer of Marcellus.

Those two vehicles struck a third automobile, driven by 42 year old Amber Gilbert of Three Rivers, who was traveling east on Marcellus Highway and had slowed down at the intersection to make a turn to go south on Decatur Road.

Miller was taken to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac while Brewer was transported to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. Gilbert and her two passengers, 48 year old Derek Gilbert and 16 year old Paige Roberts, both of Three Rivers, were taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Seatbelt use is not known at this time, and the incident is still under investigation. Assisting deputies were the Dowagiac, Wayne Township and Marcellus Fire Departments and Pride Care Ambulance.
