(BUTLER) – A crash between a train and a pick up injured a Kendallville woman.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to investigate an incident at 9:49 PM Sunday in the 4300 block of County Road 61. Deputies and first responders arrived and removed 55 year old Carolyn Honaker from her 2007 Chevy Silverado.

During their investigation, deputies spoke with employees on the train, who said the truck was stopped at the railroad track, facing north. The train’s conductor said he heard the truck’s engine rev up and then saw the pick up drive around the crossing gate and crash into a car connected to the train.

Train employees say the train was moving approximately 7 miles per hour at the time of the collision.

It’s believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.

Assisting deputies were the Butler Police and Fire Departments, the Norfolk Southern Police and Parkview EMS.
