(LANSING) – Two road resurfacing projects are set to start next week in St. Joseph County.

The Michigan Department of Transportation will be resurfacing 7 miles of M-60 from the M-66 junction to Hacker Road in Leonidas. In addition, 1 mile of U.S. 12 from Fairview Drive to Grass Lake Lane in White Pigeon will also be resurfaced.

The work will include hot-mix asphalt, cold milling and resurfacing; sidewalk ramp and traffic recorder replacement along with new pavement markings. It will improve safety and access for pedestrians, and it will improve the driving surface of the road and extend the life of the roadway.

The cost of the project is $2.2 million. Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support nearly 28 jobs.

Work is expected to start on Tuesday, September 6 and should be finished by Friday, November 18. Drivers should expect lane closures and traffic regulators during the projects.
