(QUINCY) – An apartment fire Wednesday evening sent one person to the hospital.

The Quincy Fire Department was doing a training drill when they received a call at 6:46 PM of an apartment fire in a building at 47 West Chicago Road. Four vehicles arrived and found smoke coming from a single story, multi-family dwelling.

Firefighters entered the apartment and found the lone occupant, who was removed and firemen started CPR. The occupant regained a pulse and started to breathe on their own.

The patient was then taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital and later flown to a Kalamazoo hospital to receive further treatment. Their condition is not known.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire in a short time and keep it contained to the apartment where it stared.

The Quincy Fire Department, Quincy Police Department and the Coldwater Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire, but it is believed to be accidental in nature.

The Coldwater Fire Department, Quincy Police Department, the Michigan State Police, Branch County Victim Service and Life Care Ambulance all assisted at the scene.
