(BATAVIA TOWNSHIP) – A high speed chase has put a man in the Branch County Jail.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says deputies saw a car traveling at a high rate of speed heading south on Old U.S. 27 at Garfield Road at 5:20 PM Thursday. Officers followed the car, with speeds going between 90 and 122 miles per hour.

The pursuit lasted five miles until the suspect vehicle crashed at West Fenn Road and Butcher Road. Deputies approached the vehicle and discovered the driver, 25 year old Owen Waters, had two small children with him in the back seat. One of the children was buckled up, the other was not.

Waters was arrested on charges of felony fleeing and eluding, driving while intoxicated along with two counts of child endangerment. Assisting at the scene were Bronson Fire Rescue, Life Care Ambulance and Branch County Child Protective Services.

The children were taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional to be evaluated for their injuries.
