(STURGIS) – The Sturgis City Commission has selected two firms to interview to see if they could be hired to help search for the next City Manager.

During Wednesday’s meeting, City Manager Mike Hughes informed the Commissioners that following their direction, he reached out to five firms that have worked with other communities to finding City leaders. ...... {LISTEN}.

Hughes says that was the Michigan Municipal League, who said they were too busy at the present time.

Commissioner Frank Perez says he contacted the four firms to get some more information. ...... {LISTEN}.

Perez says he also asked the firms to share with him a difficult situation they had, along with some other questions. He then recommended to the Commission that they bring in Amy Cell Proposal of Ypsilanti and Walsh Municipal Services Proposal of Okemos to be interviewed.

The Commission agreed to invite both firms to a work session on November 30 to be interviewed and then decide which one they would retain to help them search for the next City Manager.

Mike Hughes announced in October that he would be resigning January 20, 2023 as City Manager.

Mayor Jeff Mullins also suggested that during one of the Commission’s December meetings they discuss the naming of an Interim City Manager.
