(COLDWATER) – Sentence has been handed down to a Bronson man on a charge of second degree criminal sexual conduct.

Branch County Circuit Court officials say 27 year old Jonathon Wyant will serve between one and a half and 15 years in prison, after he entered a no contest plea to the second degree criminal sexual conduct charge. In exchange for the plea, the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office dismissed a second charge of second degree criminal sexual conduct along with a charge of child accosting for immoral purposes.

The Branch County Sheriff's Department conducted an investigation after being notified by the mother of a girl, who told her mother she was abused by Wyant. The girl was between 7 and 8 years old when the incident took place at a house on Ralston Road, sometime in either 2013 or 2014.

When the girl saw Wyant again in 2021, she told her mother of the alleged abuse. They contacted the Sheriff’s Department, who did the investigation and then arrested Wyant.

Wyant was given credit for 132 days served. As part of his sentencing, Wyant must register as a sex offender with the State of Michigan. When he is eventually released from prison, Wyant will not be allowed to have any contact with the victim, and will not be allowed within 500 feet of the victim’s house, school or where she works.
