Missing Elkhart Man Found Dead In Sturgis Township

(STURGIS TOWNSHIP) – A missing Elkhart man has been found dead in Sturgis Township.

Michigan State Police say they found the body of 70 year old Garvin Roberson Friday afternoon. He was in his vehicle, which was located in some water in the area of Fawn River Road and White School Road.

Roberson was reported missing on November 28, when a Silver Alert was issued in Indiana by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police. The Silver Alert has since been canceled.

Roberson is the brother of Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson. According to WNDU TV, Rod Roberson and his family issued a statement, saying they are devastated to learn about Garvin’s death. He asks for the community to continue to pray for the family and thanks everyone for respecting their privacy at this time while they grieve.

Michigan State Police are now handling the investigation.
