(STURGIS) – Sturgis City Commissioners will be discussing two related matters during their meeting tonight.

The first will be the appointment of an interim City Manager. In October, City Manager Mike Hughes announced that he was resigning January 20, 2023 after 17 years in the position.

During their November 30 meeting, Mayor Jeff Mullins shared that he would like to speak with Assistant City Manager Andrew Kuk to see if he would be interested in becoming the interim City Manager.

The other matter to be discussed tonight is if the City will be hiring a firm to help them find their next City Manager. Also on November 30, the Commission heard presentations from Amy Cell LLC and Walsh Municipal Services on how they would work with the City to help them find a new City Manager.

The Commission voted 6-2 to hold off on naming a search firm. This would give Mullins time to talk to Kuk about possibly become the full time City Manager, which would save the City time and money. If Kuk isn’t interested in being the full time City Manager, then the City can hire a firm.

Commissioner Frank Perez disagreed with that idea. Perez says the Commission should move forward with hiring a search firm, and if Kuk is interested in the job, then he could be considered a candidate.

Tonight’s City Commission meeting starts at 6 PM in the Wiesloch Room of Sturgis City Hall. The public is welcome to attend.
