(STURGIS) – Two fires that happened in Sturgis over the weekend are being investigated.

Sturgis Deputy Fire Director Andy Strudwick says just before 12 AM on December 10, the Sturgis Department of Public Safety was sent to a reported structure fire in the 200 block of Grove Street. Heavy smoke and fire was seen coming from the rear windows of the residential structure.

Firefighters performed a knockdown of the fire from the exterior and then went inside to search and finish extinguishing the blaze. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The flame, smoke and water damage was extensive.

Strudwick says just before 12 PM on December 11, the department was sent to a second residential structure fire, this time in the 1,000 block of Meadowlane Drive. Fire crews found moderate smoke coming from the eves of the house.

Firefighters entered the home and did a search before knocking down the fire. The dwelling was unoccupied. While the structure was saved, it did suffer extensive smoke damage.

No injuries were reported at either location. Sturgis Fire Marshal Cody Cripe is investigating the fires.
