(CENTREVILLE) – Due to the impending winter storm heading towards Southwest Michigan, travel could become difficult.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite has issued a Travel Advisory for St. Joseph County, effective at 4 PM Thursday, December 22 until 1 PM on Saturday, December 24. The Advisory coincides with the Blizzard Warning that has been issued by the National Weather Service.

Lillywhite says the Travel Advisory has been issued because road conditions will become hazardous, and in many places, roads will become impassible. Widespread blowing and drifting of snow will significantly reduce visibility and gusty winds, along with low wind chills, may cause additional hazards.

Lillywhite says all non-essential traffic is being asked to stay off the roadways and the public should not travel unless absolutely necessary. Anyone who decides to travel should maintain adequate supplies and if a driver becomes stranded, remain with your vehicle until help arrives.
