Southwest Michigan Jobless Rates Drop Slightly In November

(LANSING) – Southwest Michigan saw a drop in their jobless rates from October to November.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget says the biggest drop in unemployment was in St. Joseph and Branch Counties, with both seeing their unemployment go down three-tenths of a percent. St. Joseph County dropped from 4.3 to an even 4 percent, while Branch County went down from 4 percent to 3.7 percent.

Cass County saw a drop in their unemployment of two-tenths of a percent, from 3.7 to 3.5 percent. Hillsdale County went from 4.3 to 4.2 percent, a reduction of one-tenth of a percent.

Statewide the unemployment rate went down from an October rate of 3.7 to 3.5 percent in November. That’s a drop of two-tenths of a percent.

Wayne Rourke, Associate Director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives says Michigan’s regional labor markets moved as expected in November. Seasonal rate increases occurred in several regions and payroll employment was stable over the month.
