Sturgis Public Safety Investigating Shooting Death

(STURGIS) – The Sturgis Department of Public Safety is investigating a shooting that left one person dead.

Sturgis Department of Public Safety Deputy Director Damon Knapp says officers were called to the Country Hearth Inn and Suites in the 1700 block of South Centreville Road at 6:05 PM Thursday for a reported shooting. Officers found a man in his early 30’s in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo where he passed away from his injuries a short time later.

Knapp says at this time, the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no further threat to the public. Assisting at the scene were the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police.

The Sturgis Department of Public Safety is continuing to investigate this incident. If anyone has information on the shooting, or the suspect, they are asked to call the Department of Public Safety at 269-651-3231 or St. Joseph County Central Dispatch at 269-467-4195.
