(CENTREVILLE) – A temporary restraining order against a Centreville apartment complex has been extended.

During a hearing Thursday afternoon, Judge Jeffrey Middleton heard information regarding a situation at Mill Race Apartments in Centreville. A resident contacted several different health and law enforcement agencies Wednesday saying there was flooding in several of the apartments and no heat as well.

Middleton shares that he was informed Wednesday afternoon of a situation at the complex. .

St. Joseph County Emergency Services Director Erin Goff testified she had been contacted about the situation and when she arrived found water in apartments, bare electrical wires that were wet and no heat in some of the units. Goff says she then reached out to find assistance for the residents. .

The St. Joseph County United Way was also contacted and helped find temporary housing for those who needed it.

Three residents of the complex also testified, with one saying this was the third time there had been flooding issues with the buildings.

After hearing from all parties, Middleton says this is a public health issue and he doesn’t trust the ownership of the apartments, Centreville Investments LLC, after what had been shared. Middleton says he is extending the restraining order until 9 AM on January 4 when the matter will be discussed again to see if any progress had been made on the repairs and if the apartments are safe for residents to return.
