(LANSING) – With the new year there’s a change in the Michigan minimum wage.

As of January 1, the minimum wage is now $10.10 per hour, a jump of .23 per hour. The minimum wage for tipped workers has gone up to $3.84 per hour.

In 2018, Michigan lawmakers adopted and amended a petition initiative that would raise the State’s minimum wage to $12.05 by the year 2030, instead of 2022 as originally proposed. The initiative also keeps the tipped minimum wage at 38% of the regular minimum wage, instead of raising it to the same by 2024.

The approval of the initiative is being battled in court. If the challenge of what is being called the “Adopt and Amend” minimum wage is successful, the Michigan minimum wage would increase to $13.03 an hour, and the tipped minimum wage could go up to $11.73 an hour later this year.
