(UNION CITY) – A suspect was arrested in connection with the stabbing of two men that happened Monday.

In a media release, the Branch County Sheriff’s Department says they were contacted just after 12:30 PM Monday about an assault in the 1200 block of Burlington Road, which is just south of the Branch and Calhoun county line.

According to investigators, the suspect, a 31 year old Jackson man, attacked a 33 year old Union Man from behind, stabbing him multiple times in the back, neck and chest. The suspect next allegedly searched for the second victim, a 33 year old Coldwater man. The second victim was stabbed in the head and face several times, and then was assaulted with a hammer.

Deputies say other witnesses at the scene overpowered the suspect and held him there until authorities arrived.

The two victims were taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo to be treated. The Union City man is listed in serious condition, while the Coldwater man was treated and released.

The suspect was also treated at Bronson Methodist Hospital and then released. He was then arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies and lodged in the Branch County Jail on multiple charges.

The names of the suspect and the victims have not been released at this time.

Assisting deputies were the Union City Police Department and Life Care Ambulance.
