NE Indiana Jobless Rates Rise In January

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Jobless rates increased around Northeast Indiana from December to January.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development released the January unemployment figures. LaGrange County saw the largest growth in unemployment going from 2.1% to 5.2%, that’s an increase of 3.1%.

Noble County saw their unemployment go from 2.7% to 5.2% (+2.5%). Elkhart County increased from 2.8% to 4.9% (+2.1%) while Steuben County increased from 2% to 2.9% (.9%). DeKalb County saw their jobless rate go from 2.3% to 3% (+.7%).

Looking at cities in Northeast Indiana, Goshen saw their unemployment rate go from 3.2% to 6.2% (+3%) from December to January. Elkhart went up from 3.6% to 5.5% (+1.9%).

The Statewide jobless rate stayed the same from December to January at 3.1%.
