(COLON TOWNSHIP) – A Branch County man is dead following a two vehicle crash that happened in Colon Township.

St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says deputies were called out to Colon Road just east of Bennett Road at 5:30 Saturday morning. They determined that 67 year old Willie Kosachuck from the Coldwater area was driving west on Colon Road when he crossed the center line while navigating a curve in the road. Kosachuck struck an eastbound vehicle, driven by 19 year old Thaison Washington of Colon.

Kosachuck was pronounced dead at the scene. Washington was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Assisting deputies at the scene of the accident were the Colon Township and Mendon Township Fire Departments along with Life Care Ambulance. The crash is still under investigation.
