(CALIFORNIA TOWNSHIP) – Michigan State Police have released more information on a weekend crash in Branch County’s California Township.

Troopers were called out at 12:30 AM to East Southern Road and Kelley Road for a two vehicle crash. They arrived and discovered that a car crashed into an Amish buggy.

The preliminary investigation determined that the driver of the passenger car, a 35 year old Fremont, Indiana man, was heading west on Southern Road and struck a westbound horse-drawn buggy. The driver told troopers he never saw the buggy before he struck it. He was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

An adult male was taken by Life Care Ambulance to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with a broken leg. An adult woman was also take to Parkview by Samaritan Helicopter with head and back injuries.

Three other people received minor injuries. They were taken to Cameron Memorial Hospital in Angola by Steuben County EMS. The Fremont Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

The investigation is continuing. Michigan State Police say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
