(CONSTANTINE) – An early morning fire destroyed a Constantine house.

Fire Chief Mike Haydon says the Constantine Fire Department was called out at 12:51 AM Wednesday for a structure fire in the 200 block of West Water Street. Michigan State Police arrived on scene and found all of the residents were outside. Firefighters got to the house in eight minutes and found the house was fully engulfed in flames.

The White Pigeon Fire Department responded to provide mutual aid. Crews battled the fire for 4 hours, but were hampered by high winds and the roof collapsing. The blaze was eventually put out.

Haydon says the residents reported they woke up to find the top of the stove area on fire. The fire spread quickly through the house. One resident received minor burns while trying to put out the fire. The person was treated and released at the scene by Life Care Ambulance.

Also assisting at the scene were the Constantine Department Of Public Works, the White Pigeon Police Department, the Michigan State Police and St. Joseph County Victims Services.

Haydon says no other information is available at this time.
