(STURGIS) – A community event on suicide prevention is taking place today.

Be Here Tomorrow is designed to bring awareness to the growing issue of suicide in St. Joseph County and Southern Michigan, and to let people now of the resources available to those who may think that suicide is their only option.

The idea for the event came following last Fall’s Walking Along Suicide Prevention fund raiser, which was planned by Ramon Lugo. Lugo lost his younger brother to suicide and as he was researching ways to understand and cope with this, he came across Kevin Hines who is today’s keynote speaker. ...... {LISTEN}.

Hines jumped off the bridge and as he was falling, realized he didn’t want to die. Hines survived the fall, and now shares his story with others.

Be Here Tomorrow is being presented by the St. Joseph County Suicide Prevention Taskforce, and is sponsored by WASP and the St. Joseph County United Way. This is a free event and is open to the public, running from 11 AM until 3 PM at Rouch World.

There will be bounce houses, hay rides, food trucks and resource tables. Hines will speak to the attendees at 1 PM.
