(ALBION) – The Town of Albion is looking into the possibility of getting electric vehicle charging stations.

During Tuesday’s meeting the Albion Town Council voted unanimously to approve participating in a grant application that could sometime in the future see the construction of two electric vehicle charging stations in the downtown area.

The Council says they are not officially committing to getting the charging stations with this vote. They only want to see what the actual cost would be
before moving forward.

If it’s approved, the State grant would pay of 80% of the project.

According to town officials, if Albion moves forward, there would be two slow charging stations installed on South Orange Street, near the Noble County Economic Development Corporation.

The estimated cost for the two stations would be $40,000. If the State grant is approved, the Town would only be responsible for paying $8,000.

Town officials say Albion would pay for the electricity used by the charging stations, and then be reimbursed by the company operating the station.
