(UNDATED) – Michigan State Police from the Marshall Post are continuing their investigation into a vehicle crash at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bronson Township.

Troopers were called to the cemetery, located at 375 Orland Road at 2:15 AM Saturday for what was called in as a personal injury accident. Joining them were the Bronson Police and Fire Departments and Life Care Ambulance.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a pick up was heading south on Orland Road, lost control, went off the road and crashed into the St. Mary’s cemetery. Approximately 20 headstones were damaged, before the pick up overturned and came to rest on its side.

Troopers are questioning who was driving the vehicle when the accident happened: a woman who was found with the truck, or a man who was found near the cemetery. He was suffering from injuries consistent with a crash.

Troopers say they are waiting for lab analysis from blood evidence collected at the scene to determine exactly who was driving the pick up. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, and seatbelts were used by both individuals. No serious injuries were reported.
