Michigan Sees Drop In April Unemployment Rate

(LANSING) – Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from March to April.

Information released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget shows the unemployment rate went from 4.1% in March down to 3.8% in April. Employment in the State rose by 30,000 while unemployment decreased by 14,000.

Areas of employment that saw the biggest growth from March to April are Construction, which was up 4.3%; Leisure and Hospitality, which saw a 3% increase; Education and Health Services, which went up 2.9% and Natural Resources and Mining, which saw an increase of 2.8%.

Wayne Rourke, Labor Market Information Director of the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics, says there was a large drop in the number of unemployed people in April, causing Michigan’s unemployment rate to fall. Rourke says payroll jobs rose for the sixth consecutive month as well.
