(LANSING) – Unemployment rates went down from March to April around Southern Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget reports that St. Joseph County had a drop in their unemployment from 4.8% to 3.4%. That’s a decrease of 1.4%.

Branch County also had a drop of 1.4% in unemployment, as they went from a rate of 4.6% to 3.2%.

The biggest drop in unemployment in the area was both Cass and Hillsdale Counties, as both went down 1.6%. Cass County went from 5.1% to 3.5%, while Hillsdale County saw a decrease from 4.9% to 3.3%.

Statewide, the unemployment rate decreased from 4.1% to 2.9%, which is a decrease of 1.2%.

Wayne Rourke, the Labor Market Information Director of the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics says labor force increases were seen across Michigan labor market areas during April. In addition, Regional payroll employment levels also advanced over the month.
