(STURGIS) – The Sturgis Department Of Public Safety has recovered a stolen pick up, and arrested an individual in connection with the theft.

Deputy Director Damon Knapp says on September 6, officers located a 2006 GMC Sierra Pickup in the 1200 block of East Chicago Road that had been reported stolen earlier in the week. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled, nearly striking several people and colliding with another vehicle and a building.

The suspect headed south a short distance and then crashed in the 600 block of Parkside Drive.

The driver was arrested on multiple charges from this incident along with several outstanding warrants. After being treated for injuries, the driver was transported to the St. Joseph County Jail.

The Michigan State Police and the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department assisted Sturgis Police.
