Detroit Woman Bound Over In Drug Smuggling Investigation

(COLDWATER) – A second suspect arrested for trying to smuggle drugs into a Coldwater prison has had their case bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.

Branch County District Court officials say 28 year old Adoreray Bruce of Detroit waived her District Court preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

Bruce was arrested along with 59 year old Edison Terry, also of Detroit, on August 12, following a month long investigation into incidents of drugs and cell phones being smuggled into the Lakeland Correctional Facility.

Their vehicle stopped on Marshall Road along the western side of the Lakeland Correctional Facility at 5 AM on August 12. Terry excited the car and was quickly apprehended by Department of Corrections officials. Bruce attempted to drive away, but was stopped by the Michigan State Police and arrested.

Officers recovered approximately 96 grams of marijuana wax, 30 grams of suspected meth; 10 grams of suspected powder heroin and two smart phones.

Bruce and Terry are each charged with delivery of a controlled substances, conspiracy to commit delivery of a controlled substance; possession of meth, attempted bringing contraband into a prison and attempted bringing cellphones into a prison. Terry is also facing a fourth offense habitual offender sentencing enhancer for previous convictions.

Bruce is scheduled to have a Circuit Court pre-trial conference on October 16.

Terry also waived his District Court preliminary examination, after pleading not guilty to the charges against him. He is scheduled for a Circuit Court pre-trial hearing on October 23.
