(COLDWATER) – A Coldwater woman has said no to a plea agreement and will now see her case go to trial.

Branch County Circuit Court officials say 65 year old Kathleen Rowe is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm in a building causing serious impairment; and felony firearm.

A plea hearing was set for Monday morning, but Rowe rejected the plea. Terms of the agreement were not released.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department was called to the 500 block of Pamela Drive at 4:30 PM on January 26. According to their investigation, deputies determined that 33 year old Kacey Stringer was shot in the abdomen during the fight with Rowe, who is her mother. Stringer was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center and remained there two weeks.

Rowe was questioned by deputies and told them she shot her daughter out of self-defense, and she was tired of Stringer’s physical and mental abuse. Stringer told deputies that there had been an argument, but nothing physical happened between the two of them.

Stringer says that Rowe threw a drawer at her and even pointed a knife at her
before getting the gun.

Rowe plead not guilty to all charges.

No trial date has been set. Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien says he doesn’t expect the trial to start until sometime in early 2024.
