(COLDWATER) – ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital employees learned Thursday that the organization is shutting down two areas of health care.

In a letter that was sent to employees, Site Administrator Dan Schwanke stated that ProMedica has made a difficult decision and will be closing ProMedica Hospice that serves Branch, St. Joseph and Hillsdale Counties. They will also close ProMedica Home Health, that serves Branch and Hillsdale Counties.

Schwanke says the decision to close these two services is part of ProMedica’s overall exit plan from the hospice and home care business. Both are set to close by December 10 of this year.

By closing the hospice and home health branches, ProMedica will be able to focus more on core health system operations and in turn foster a more stable and sustainable organization.

ProMedica is working to ensure that the necessary staff members stay in place to care for the patients and to help transition their care as needed.
