(COLDWATER) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department has commented on a shelter in place that took place Thursday at Coldwater High School.
In a post on the Department’s Facebook page, Sheriff John Pollack says a shelter in place was issued after reports came in to the Coldwater Community Schools office of gunfire in the area of the school around 11:30 AM. Pollack says at the same time, his department was conducting firearms training on the west side of Coldwater at their training range.
Coldwater Police were contacted by school officials, and officers confirmed it was deputies doing their training. The shelter is place was then lifted.
Pollack would like to assure the community that every possible precaution is taken to keep the public safe, and notifications were issued prior to the training on Thursday. However that information was not relayed.
