
Two State Pursuit Ends In Crash And Death Of Driver

(GREENFIELD TOWNSHIP) – A police pursuit that started in Michigan ended in Indiana with the death of a driver.
The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department was notified around around 4:20 PM Friday of a pursuit that started a few minutes earlier in Branch County, where Sheriff’s Deputies tried to stop a driver for speeding. The pursuit went into Matteson Township, then west into St. Joseph County and towards Burr Oak.
Deputies followed the suspect vehicle back into Branch County and then south into LaGrange County. LaGrange County Deputies say the suspect vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed south on County Road 1100 East. It disregarded the stop sign at State Road 120, and was struck broadside by an eastbound semi.
The driver of the car, 30 year old Anthony Wayne Grant of Elkhart, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver, 32 year old Alex Czerkies of Riverdale, Michigan, was not injured.
Assisting at the scene were the LaGrange Police Department, the Orland Fire Department and the Indiana State Police who are handling the investigation.
