(COLON) – More information has been released on a two vehicle crash that ended with the autos in the Palmer Lake Spillway.

Colon Police Chief Mark Brinkert says a 70 year old woman was driving east on East State Street near South Swan Street at 12:15 PM Thursday when her vehicle collided with an automobile driven by a 76 year old woman that was entering the road.

The two automobiles went down an embankment and into the spillway crash. Several bystanders, including customers of a nearby restaurant, helped get the women out of the water.

The women were initially treated at the scene by the Colon Fire and Rescue for minor injuries. They were then taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
