(UNDATED) – Some millage requests will be on the ballot for Tuesday in St. Joseph County.
Constantine Township is presenting two ballot requests to the voters. One is an increase of .50 mills to be levied for five years on all taxable real and personal property for the purpose of local road repairs, upgrades, construction, improvements and maintenance purposes. If approved, it’s estimated the millage would raise $63,888 in the first year.
Constantine Township is also asking for the authority to raise money by special assessment for the provision of Township-wide fire protection and ambulance service.
Burr Oak Community Schools is asking for a renewal of their sinking fund millage. Currently, Burr Oak Schools authorizes 2.9712 mills for their sinking fund, which is set to end on December 31, 2024. The renewal would keep the sinking fund going from 2025 until 2029. Money from the sinking fund would be used for the construction or repair of school buildings, school security improvements, along with acquiring and upgrading technology.
Bronson Community Schools is also asking for a sinking fund millage renewal, with the proposal going to voters in both St. Joseph and Branch Counties. The current sinking fund is set to end in 2023 and the new millage would, if approved, go until 2028. It is asking to continue with a millage rate of 1.9766 mills.
Polls will be open Tuesday until 8 PM.
