(COLDWATER) – A man arrested in June on multiple charges will be evaluated to see if he is competent to stand trial.

Branch County Circuit Court online records show that 47 year old Frank Lemen of Jackson plead not guilty by reason of insanity on October 16 to several charges, including third degree fleeing and eluding, attempting to disarm a police officer, assaulting a police officer causing injury and third degree child abuse. Lemen was also charged with three counts of assaulting, resisting or obstructing police and two counts of indecent exposure. The Branch County Prosecutor’s Office also filed a Habitual Offender sentencing enhancer against Lemen.

On June 27, the Branch County Sheriff’s Department was called to the 400 block of North Main Street in Sherwood around 5 PM, after receiving a call of a naked man who was trying to kick in a door at the house. When deputies arrived, Lemen threw items at the officers and then drove away with his four year old daughter in the vehicle.

The police chased Lemen to the west side of Coldwater on U.S. 12 where he struck a Michigan State Police cruiser and came to a stop. He fought with the officers, biting one of them until he was brought under control and arrested.

On line court documents say that Lemen has been committed to the Center for Forensic Psychiatry and Evaluation in Saline for up to 60 days. After that time, the Probate Court may order the Lemen to be committed for an indefinite period of time.
