(BRONSON) – Golf carts may now be used on Bronson city streets.
By a 4-1 vote Monday, the Bronson City Council approved an ordinance to allow golf carts in the City limits. Councilman Larry McConn cast the lone No vote.
The ordinance was created by Bronson City Manager Brandon Mersman, City Attorney Chuck Lillis and Bronson Police Chief Stephen Johnson. Lillis explains why the City is deciding on an ordinance instead of a resolution. ...... {LISTEN}.
Mersman says the ordinance closely follows the State statutes. Golf carts have to be registered with the City. Drivers must be at least 16 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
The speed limit will be 15 miles per hour and golf carts can only be operated during daylight hours. Golf carts will not be allowed to operate on U.S. 12, but they may cross U.S. 12 at four way stop lights.
Lillis says under the ordinance, penalties would be treated as civil infractions. The first violation would result in a $100 fine. The second violation and any others after that would be a $150 fine.
