(THREE RIVERS) – A local governmental unit has purchased a house to help out veterans.
During their meeting, the Three Rivers City Commission voted to buy the house and property located at 308 South Main Street at a cost of $135,000. They would then lease the house and grounds back to St. Joseph County, who would use it as a transitional residence for veterans.
Stoney Summey, the St. Joseph County Veterans Affairs Director, says that the house has room for six veterans and the maximum length of stay for a person would be nine months.
Summey says that a Supportive Services For Veteran Families Grant will cover the rent for those staying in the house, which would be $700 per month.
