(CENTREVILLE) – A statement has been released on the firing of an assistant prosecutor.

In the statement, St. Joseph County Prosecutor David Marvin says the firing of Debbie Davis following a courtroom situation in St. Joseph County District Court on January 16, was just like teaching our children about right and wrong. Marvin says the residents of the County would be outraged if he had not been able to root out injustice in his office. He says it would be a disservice to this county, the entire law enforcement community, and every defendant who comes into contact with his office if he didn’t fire Davis.

Davis was fired by Marvin after his investigation alleges she lied or made misleading statements to a judge at least eight times.

Marvin says he is asking everyone to read his report and determine for themselves if Davis was unfit to perform justice work. He says it’s a privilege to be an attorney and an honor to serve the public as a Prosecutor. Marvin says a great responsibility comes with the job and that is why every attorney swears an oath to in part, employ for the purpose of maintaining the causes confided to him such means as only are consistent with truth and honor, and will never seek to mislead the judge or jury by artifice or false statement of fact or law.

Marvin says he terminated Davis at an inappropriate time when he is dealing with staffing shortages. Marvin says it would have been easier to ignore or hide the truth with this matter.

Marvin says that Davis has not recognized any wrongdoing, and has given news interviews claiming she stood by her actions and would do it again. He says a licensed attorney who violates an oath to uphold basic American principles will not work for him and should never be allowed to work for any of us.

Marvin is seeking a second four year term as St. Joseph County Prosecutor. Davis is also running for the office.
