(COLDWATER) – Charges have been filed against a Union City man involved in a shooting incident last November.
Branch County District Court officials and Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien say Gerald Kellenberger is charged with careless discharge of a weapon causing injury or death and discharging a firearm while aimed without malice but with injury.
On November 4, 2023, Michigan State Police were called to Kellenberger’s home in the 100 block of Sullivan Road. Troopers arrived and found a man on the front steps that had been shot. He was flown from the scene by West Michigan Air Care to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of the gunshot wounds, a fractured jaw and other facial injuries.
Kellenberger was interviewed by troopers and told them he used a .22 caliber rifle, and believed it was empty while showing it to the victim.
Officers got a search warrant for Kellenberger’s house, but were not able to find the weapon. The matter is still under investigation.
