(CENTREVILLE) – Social media and online activities seem to be taking up more time daily for young people.
An event set for tonight night will help parents to understand this better and try to show them how to help their children not be so tied into their devices.
Parenting In A Digital Age is the seminar that will be held tonight. The event is being put on by Centreville Public Schools, the St. Joseph County United Way and the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department.
Centreville Superintendent Chad Brady says the idea for the event came from a discussion he had with his wife. Brady says this is not just a school matter, but one for the community to know more about. ...... {LISTEN}.
The event is being paid for by the St. Joseph County United Way’s Suicide Prevention Fund. One of the topics that will be discussed is cyber bullying, which United Way Executive Director Kelly Hostetler says is an increasing problem and is a contributing factor to youth suicides. ...... {LISTEN}.
The keynote speaker is Robert Hackenson Jr. Also speaking will be Erin Goff, St. Joseph County Emergency Services Director; and Terra Koenig, the school based therapist with Centreville Public Schools.
The seminar will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday in the Nora Hagen Theater on the campus of Glen Oaks Community College. The event is free, but people are asked to register to make sure there is enough seating and refreshments.
To register, you can find the form on the Centreville Schools website or the St. Joseph County United Way’s website.
