(STURGIS) – The Sturgis Board of Education got a chance to see the language for a proposed millage request.

Monday during the Board’s Study Session, Sturgis Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert brought the ballot language to be presented to the voters of the School District.

Currently, Michigan schools are allowed to collect 18 mills. However, due to the Headlee Rollback, Sturgis and other schools do not receive the full 18 mills. Ebert says this millage would help Sturgis get the full millage amount they are due. ...... {LISTEN}.

The money from the 18 mills can only be used for certain tasks as Ebert explains. ...... {LISTEN}.

If approved, the millage would collect $61,800 in the first year.

The Board of Education will be asked to vote on the proposed ballot language during their regular meeting April 15.
