(STURGIS) – Sturgis Mayor Frank Perez is now a candidate for the Michigan House of Representatives.

During Wednesday’s City Commission meeting, Perez announced that he will be seeking the Republican nomination for the 36th District seat in the Michigan House. ...... {LISTEN}.

Perez was appointed to the Sturgis City Commission in April 2022 to complete the term of Karl Littman who stepped down due to health concerns.

Perez says he will continue in his duties as Mayor during the election process.

City Attorney T.J. Reed told Swick Broadcasting that Perez’s run for the Michigan House is not a conflict of interest with his position of Mayor. If Perez is elected to the seat in Lansing, then he would have to step down from the City Commission.

Perez is seeking the Republican nomination to run for the 36th District seat. In addition, incumbent State Representative Steve Carra and Michael Malmborg are also seeking the Republican nomination while Erin Schultes is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
