(UNDATED) – A stretch of very warm weather is coming our way this week, starting today.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch in effect from Monday through Friday evening for St. Joseph County, Branch, Cass and Hillsdale Counties in Southern Michigan along with LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, DeKalb and Elkhart Counties in Northern Indiana.

In addition, a Heat Advisory is effect from 11 AM until 8 PM today for the listening area. While there is a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms during the day, the heat index values could range between 95 and 100 degrees between the heat and high humidity.

Remember to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air conditioned room, and check on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. And make sure your pets and animals have plenty of fresh water.

If you work or like to spend time outside, try to reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning hours or in the evening. Take frequent breaks either in shaded areas or in an air conditioned environment. Drink plenty of fluids, specifically water and fruit juices.
